Kirk Morgan is a founding member of the Morgan Litigation Group. He has been practicing law for 37 years and has extensive trial experience. The primary focus of his legal practice is representation of victims of burn trauma. He also has extensive experience in automobile accident cases, workers’ compensation, and products liability. Over the years, Kirk has handled cases including house fires, gas leaks, electrical shock cases, car fires, scald burns, grill fires, industrial accidents. He has extensive experience representing people harmed by defective products.
Kirk attended the University of Mississippi and graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1983. While at law school, he won the National Mock Trial Competition, and made a career decision to be a trial lawyer.
As a result of his extensive experience, he has received numerous honors and recognitions. In 2000, he was elected president of the Lexington County Bar Association. Subsequently, in 2010, he was chosen to be president of the South Carolina Association for Justice, a group comprised of 1,300 trial attorneys who devote their primary practice to the representation of individuals and small businesses. In 2011, he was elected president of the Melvin Belli Society, a national organization comprised of 500 attorneys with extensive trial experience. He was invited to become a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, ABOTA in 2019. Kirk has been selected by his peers as a “Super Lawyer” for his outstanding practice areas and highest degree of recognition and professional achievements. Kirk has an AV Preeminent peer review rating with Martindale-Hubbell which is given to attorneys who are ranked at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal expertise, communication skills, and ethical standards by their peers.
In 1999, Kirk obtained board certification by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. There are fewer than 50 attorneys in South Carolina who are board certified, and Kirk remains the only attorney in Lexington County, South Carolina to have this distinction. The criteria for admission involve extensive trial experience and civil trial experience.
Throughout the years, he has litigated cases before juries on over 150 occasions. As a younger attorney, Kirk felt that any courtroom participation would only enhance his skills and ability to obtain results for clients. As such, he was involved in hundreds of family court cases, as well as criminal matters. Experience equals results is the foundation of the Morgan Litigation Group.
Kirk has been voted the “Best Litigation Attorney” for 9 consecutive years by the Lexington Life Magazine as voted upon by the 200,000 citizens of Lexington County.
Kirk is very active in the local community. He has always had a passion for children. At a young age, he served as a board member of the Special Olympics. He currently is on the board of directors of the Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center, which helps physically and sexually abused children with trauma.
Kirk is well regarded in the legal community; he speaks nationally on many topics based upon his experience and has authored numerous articles regarding burn trauma and evidence related thereto. He is a member of the American Association for Justice as well as the National Trial Lawyers Association. He has been voted a Super Lawyer every year since 2006.
The most consequential aspect of the Morgan Litigation Group and Kirk Morgan is the low volume of cases the firm chooses to handle at a given time. Kirk feels that too many lawyers do not actually get to know their clients, and as such, cannot understand the full aspects of the case. Clients of Morgan Litigation Group are going to have personal interaction with Kirk and his partner, Chuck Slaughter. Personal attention equals greater knowledge which helps achieve results. At the end of the day, the only way a good trial lawyer can be effective is by having a reputation as a good courtroom attorney.
